Can my personal injury medical be carried out locally?

Once you have started a claim, your solicitor will arrange for you to attend a medical assessment. The medical expert will be selected based on the type of injury you have sustained.

  • Medical exams are arranged with GMC-registered doctors.
  • Appointments are scheduled at a clinic near you.
  • If you cannot travel, the medical may take place at your home.

The medical will be arranged with a General Medical Council (GMC) registered doctor at a clinic close to your location. In certain circumstances, such as if you are unable to travel, the medical can be carried out at your home instead.

Why locality matters

Personal injury medicals are an essential part of the claims process. Having the exam locally makes it easier for you to attend, reduces stress, and ensures the process does not create additional inconvenience during your recovery.

What if I need a specialist?

For some injuries, your solicitor may arrange for you to see a specialist, such as an orthopaedic consultant or neurologist. These appointments are still usually arranged as close to your home as possible.

Will it delay my claim if I need to wait for a local appointment?

No. Solicitors work with nationwide networks of medical experts to ensure assessments can be carried out quickly. If your injury requires a very specific expert and no one local is available, your solicitor will discuss options with you.
